Welcome to Purring Hearts VA — Saving Lives in RVA Since 2021
Purring Hearts VA is a foster-based cat rescue proudly rooted in the Richmond community. As the rescue division of Lionhearts, Inc., we are 100% volunteer-run and powered by the generosity of donors and foster families who open their hearts and homes to cats in need.
We show up for the vulnerable ones.
Many of the cats we rescue arrive sick, injured, or in danger. We work closely with shelters across the Richmond area to pull cats at risk of euthanasia or those who would struggle in a shelter environment. We also support community members navigating difficult situations, from unmanaged cat populations to found strays or cats whose owners can no longer care for them. In 2025 alone, we found forever homes for over 1,150 cats and kittens.

We partner with the Kincheloe Clinic in Fredericksburg and Ashland, VA, and are proud PetSmart Adoption Partners. You can meet our adoptable cats at PetSmart locations in Short Pump, Chester, and Midlothian, at The Purrfect Bean cat café, and at special adoption events throughout the area.
